Floral Design

2nd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 7th Period

      

This course prepares students for careers in floral art and design.  It is a laboratory-oriented course designed to provide students technical knowledge and skills related to horticultural systems, career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations.  This course is designed to develop student's ability to identify and demonstrate the principals and techniques related to floral design as well as develop an understanding of the management of floral enterprises.

Students will learn how to make and care for arrangements, and how to make arrangements live longer.  They will demonstrate contemporary designs, business practices, specialty items, creativity, and careers in the floral industry by developing advanced floral design skills.  Students will know the management factors of floral enterprises and create contemporary floral designs. Safe work practices will also be covered. The standards to be met will be outlined by the TEKS.

*This course has a fee of $50 per semester which includes arrangements plus another $30 for students FFA dues.  Any student who has not turned in their fees will not be allowed to take arrangements home!

*Students will have the option to take the Texas State Floral Associations test to become a Certified Student Florist during the Spring Semester.  The test is $100 and can not be modified.

*This course will satisfy Fine Art graduation requirements
